ZoneDirector can provide a snapshot of currently active clients and APs along with a list of events for each. But it

does not provide any trend analysis for stations or APs. Neither does it provide any correlation between historical-

client statistics and location. The system neither provides any spectrum analysis nor any spectrum classification.

Therefore, network troubleshooting requires administrators to connect to the controller interface and scan through

the log files to infer the problem.

Trapeze Networks

Trapeze was one of the first WLAN companies to heavily invest in network management. Its RingMaster product

is oriented according to process workflow (e.g., planning, configuration, verification, and monitoring). The

network-design tool is integrated into RingMaster, which allows administrators to create a predictive design

without leaving the network-management system. The planner function takes into consideration constraints such

as voice/data design parameters, 3D interference, AP oversubscription rate, and AP redundancy to create a design

and automatically places APs onto a floor plan. Once a network is built, network administrators must manually

reconcile differences between the predictive design and the as-built network.

The interface to RingMaster provides a site-oriented and device-oriented hierarchical design (see Figure 12). The

Trapeze solution supports AP load balancing and band steering and also provides many bandwidth-management

features such as per-user/per-SSID bandwidth control.
